Known in par­tic­u­lar for his rural genre scenes, his wide-rang­ing sub­jects includ­ed por­traits, farm­house inte­ri­ors, rural and beach scenes, land­scapes with cat­tle, his­to­ry paint­ings, scenes of Hell, alle­gories, satires and illus­tra­tions of proverbs.
